As with any home improvement project, prep work is necessary to ensure your belongings aren’t harmed. I’m Chris Duty of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I recommend that my clients remove all personal belongings from the room in which a fixture is being refinished.
While I am refinishing your tub, sink or countertops, I will open windows and use filtered fans to help eliminate the odor from the process. I will line the walls, cabinets, and floors with a static paper that attracts overspray. The filtered fans also draw out overspray. These methods work, so not only will you have a beautifully restored fixture, you won’t even know that I was there.
I advise my clients that a refinished surface need to 48 hours to fully harden.
Upon completion of the project, I will give you instructions for care and cleaning of your refinished sink, tub, or countertop. By following my instructions and avoiding abrasive cleaners, you can enjoy your refinished surface for 10 to 20 years or longer. Refinished surfaces, like porcelain, can chip if you drop something heavy on them, but I also offer chip repair services. Read the rest of this entry ?

In hard economic times, people search for cheap ways to repair and update their homes. Home owners with porcelain tubs and sinks often purchase do-it-yourself (DIY) chip repair kits. While this seems to be the most cost effective way to repair a chip, it can actually wind up costing you more.
These DIY chip repair kits cost around $25 and claim to take as little as five minutes to dry. Manufacturers state that the tub or sink can be used in less than an hour. They also claim that their products are water-proof and resistant to household cleaners. Also, there are websites that give you step-by-step guide for the repairs. However, my clients who’ve tried the DIY chip repair kits complain of a poor appearance, as well as chipping and peeling.
I’m Chris Duty, owner of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I have been getting a lot of calls lately to repair these DIY chip repairs! I have been refinishing bathtubs, sinks, and showers for years. I have seen and repaired a number of DIY chip repair projects. I will save you money and hours of aggravation with custom porcelain refinishing.
Here are some before and after pictures of a sink remodel I recently completed. This is not a little DIY project!

With spring approaching quickly, homeowners are ready to spring clean and fix up the house. Many people will watch home improvement programs and think they can handle everything themselves. Some decide to take on the bathroom and give it a whole new look. There are several ways to spruce up the bathroom and increase the value of your home, but not all are do-it-yourself projects.
Let’s look at your bathtub. You can go to any home improvement store and purchase a new bathtub for around $200. With that, you need to add in the cost of demolition, removal, tile replacement, and plumbing. Suddenly your $200 bathtub just cost you plenty more … even thousands!
You have probably seen advertisements for acrylic liners. These bandages are actually more expensive than a new tub, and they only hide the real problems. You could purchase a DIY refinisher and attempt to repair the tub yourself. Without experience, it is virtually impossible to achieve a smooth finish. Not to mention, most DIY finishes peel and chip. So what other options do you have?
I’m Chris Duty, owner and operator of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I have been refinishing bathtubs, sinks, and showers for years. I have saved my customers hours of aggravation and money with my custom refinishing. Upon completion of your refinished project, I will give you instructions for the care of your new refinished bathtub.
I not only do refinishing work on tubs, sinks, and counter tops, I do remodeling projects such as tile, painting, flooring, and have a crew of trustworthy plumbers and electricians. We can take that DIY project off your hands or fix that project so you can enjoy your weekend.
If you are in the DFW area and need bathtub refinishing or minor remodeling, call me at (940)395-1406 for a free estimate. I will provide you with professional references upon request.

When I complete a bathtub refinishing project, I advise my client to wait 48 hours before using the tub.
If you take reasonable precautions, like using the right kind of cleaner, your refinished bathtub could look as good as new for a few decades!
After the process has dried completely, it’s important to keep standing water off of the surface. This means you should avoid using suction-cup mats, sitting bottles on the ledge, or leaving wet rags and toys in the tub.
I like to say, if you wouldn’t do it to your car, don’t do it to your tub.
Don’t use steel wool or gritty cleansers on the surface. Instead, use a non-abrasive cleanser, like Simple Green, to keep the new topcoat shiny and smooth. When you scrub any surface (even a new bathtub) with abrasive cleansers, the topcoat is worn away. Tiny scratches are created in the surface, and over time, body oils, soaps, and dirt get caught in the scratches. Ultimately, the tub will star to look dingy.
Keep heavy, sharp, and hard items out of the tub. Basically, don’t throw hangers and shoes in it. Don’t store tools in it. And, if you have kids, make sure they use soft toys in the tub — no metal cars or dishes.
If you notice that water is standing in the tub because of unevenness in the bottom or in the corners on the ledge, dry the area with a towel after bathing and showering. If the uneven area exists when I come in to refinish, I can usually repair it before the job. However, if the tub shifts or is altered after refinishing, and water is allowed to stand in any area for long periods of time, the surface can become damaged.
So, to recap: soft cleansers, no hard or sharp objects, no standing or trapped water.
These few little precautions will keep your tub looking great for years.

Hi there! Just wanted to share a few photos of my recent jobs with you. This first set of photos represents chip repair on a kitchen sink. I don’t often recommend refinishing a kitchen sink because, with daily use, it will likely chip. However, if you’re selling your home or have a rental property, refinishing may be a good solution. You can see here that chip repair made the sink look almost as good as new.

In these photos, you see a bathtub I refinished. Years of wear and tear, cleaning, and use had made the tub’s surface dingy and stained. Porcelain, like our teeth, is porous. It soaks up stains. So, naturally, over time, porcelain discolors. However, after porcelain refinishing, the bathtub looks clean and new. I provide all my clients with cleaning and care instructions that will prolong the life of a newly refinished surface. The process I use is very durable. It can last 10 or 20 years, but, like porcelain, it’s susceptible to chipping and staining over time. A refinished bathtub can be stripped with chemicals, then refinished again when it begins to show wear.

It’s hard to sell a home right now. The economy is down, and so are house sales. My in-laws recently had their house on the market for six months, with no luck. They’ve decided to stay in the home and remodel. It’s actually a great idea. If you’ve not had luck selling your home, or if you plan to stay put for a few more years, consider freshening it up a bit. Bathrooms and kitchens usually get the most wear and tear, and remodeling these two areas will only add value to your home.
I’m Chris Duty of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I’ve been refinishing bathtubs and remodeling bathrooms for years. I understand the importance of staying within a budget — and I also value word of mouth advertising, so I guarantee my work.
In addition to resurfacing bathtubs, sinks, counter tops, and tile, I have a crew of flooring professionals, painters (who are great at faux finishes), plumbers, and electricians. We can take care of virtually any problem you have with your bathroom or kitchen, then update and enhance the esthetics. You’ll end up with a beautiful, modern bathroom or to enjoy for years to come!
Call me, Chris Duty, at 940-395-1406 today to schedule a free estimate.

At your local hardware store, you’ll find bathtub repair and resurfacing kits for $30 or less. Even if you follow the instructions, these kits do not hold up to the wear and tear a bathtub must endure. They often look shoddy, too. But you do have an alternative to replacing your tub.
Porcelain refinishing is a process in which a two-component polyurethane is bonded to the etched surface, in this case, a bathtub. Fiberglass, cultured marble, and porcelain tubs can be refinished. Multiple layers of the process, layered on after the previous layer has time to set up, ensures durability. To complete the new finish, a few layers of clear topcoat are applied. A refinished surface has a slightly textured feel and appearance, but it looks wonderful.
If your tub doesn’t need complete refinishing, chip repair is a good option. For surface scratches, buffing and polishing sometimes does the trick.
If you’d like a bid on repairing or refinishing your bathtub, sink, shower, counter tops, or tile, give me a call at 940-395-1406. I’m Chris Duty, and I’ve refinished porcelain in the Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, Grapevine, Southlake, and Keller area for going on a decade now. I’m always happy to provide professional references upon request.

Over time, the porcelain, cultured marble, or fiberglass on a bathtub will lose its glossy finish. Years of scrubbing, temperature fluctuations, and chemicals destroy the topcoat and allow dirt to penetrate the finish. This can cause yellowing, rust stains, or an overall dingy appearance. You may also notice hairline cracks, chips, or scratches in the bathtub’s surface. In just one day, porcelain refinishing can bring new life to your tarnished tub!
See for yourself in our refinished bathtub photo gallery here!
At a reasonable price, your bathtub can look like brand new. You won’t have to worry about pulling out the tub, removing tile, or any of the headaches that come with removing and replacing a bathtub. Instead, Chris will come in, protect all surfaces in your bathroom with paint-attracting paper and plastic, then refinish your bathtub with a two-component poly urethane, very durable process. He can custom-tint the process to match your counter tops, tile, or sinks. Multiple base and top coats ensure longevity for your newly refinished bathtub.
In addition to tubs, Chris can refinish tile, showers, sinks, and counter tops. Call Striking Image today at 940-395-1406 for bathtub refinishing in Roanoke, Southlake, Grapevine, Dallas, Fort Worth, and all local areas. Your estimate will be free, so you have nothing to lose!

In this project, Chris completely restored a tub with significant rust and damage around the overflow drain. You don’t always have to replace a tub with a damaged drain. Using the durable materials common in auto repair, your bathtub can be repaired and restored to look better than new. This home, in Bedford, Texas, had extensive damage – but not to the point that the homeowner had to replace the tub. Chris repaired the rusted drain, then refinished the bathtub, and now, as you can see, it’s better than ever!

Recently, Chris has stripped and refinished bathtubs that were previously refinished with very poor quality. Among the problems were overspray on the walls, shoddy repairs, un-removed plumbing fixtures (drain, faucet, overflow cover) prior to spraying, and runs and debris in the finish. One of the companies offered a 10-year warranty, yet when the customer called only 6 months after the job to ask about the warranty, she was told that a leaky Jacuzzi jet caused the problem, so it was not covered. While it’s true that a leaky faucet or jet will ruin a refinished surface, a good porcelain refinisher will address the problem before doing the work. In this particular case, the Jacuzzi jet did not leak, but it needed to be dried and plugged before refinishing.
On three jobs in the past week, Chris has seen the same sorts of problems. Consumers need to beware of fly-by-night companies that do not have a good reputation. A few key factors to look for in any contractor are references, before-and-after photos, and you need to feel confident in the contractor’s ability to answer your questions… all of your questions. After a job is completed, always go in and look over the work before making final payment. If you have concerns, don’t be too shy to bring them up.
With a newly refinished surface, you should not see: Read the rest of this entry ?
