What are people saying about Striking Image?

September 23, 2011

What are people saying about Striking Image?

“You did a wonderful job on the tub and we’re very pleased with it. Thanks for squeezing it in so quickly.”-Pat from Coppell

“Thank you so much for doing an amazing job on my old, beat-up bathtub. The bathtub you repaired and refinished looks just like new. I mean that it’s shinier than a brand new one. I can’t believe that is the same bathtub I had with two half-dollar sized, rusted holes on it. Without a moment of hesitation, I can say that you are the best. Thank you again, and it won’t be long until I need you to refinish my kitchen counter.”-Chae from Bedford

“Chris saved us the expense of having to tear out an old tub and buy a new one! Our old tub was so rusted around the overflow drain that you could touch it and it would crumble. Chris rebuilt the area and refinished the tub- looks like new! He is very efficient, detail-oriented, honest, and very neat with his work. We definitely will call him again when the need arises and recommend him to our friends!”-Val and Kandy from Trophy Club

That’s it, Folks! The truth is in the testimonials. Previous clients of Striking Image love the work that’s been in their homes and, chances are, you will, too. If you have a bathtub, shower, or countertop that needs refinishing or resurfacing, call Chris Duty, the owner of Striking Image, at (940) 395-1406 to schedule your free estimate.

August 4, 2011

With all the shows now about refurbishing, restoring, and remodeling, we’re waiting for our phone to ring. The day that a television show producer decides to green arrow a project like Flip that Porcelain, or Porcelain Hunters, or even Pimp My Porcelain, Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing will be who he calls. Based in Roanoke, Texas, we provide the DFW metroplex with porcelain rehabilitation.

We can’t help you with ghosts, because we’re not ghostbusters. However, we can help with the damage control if your malicious ghost tore up the beautiful porcelain in the bathroom. We just hope for your sake that you weren’t using the bathroom at the time.

Protect Your Belongings During Refinishing

April 13, 2011

As with any home improvement project, prep work is necessary to ensure your belongings aren’t harmed. I’m Chris Duty of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I recommend that my clients remove all personal belongings from the room in which a fixture is being refinished.

While I am refinishing your tub, sink or countertops, I will open windows and use filtered fans to help eliminate the odor from the process. I will line the walls, cabinets, and floors with a static paper that attracts overspray. The filtered fans also draw out overspray. These methods work, so not only will you have a beautifully restored fixture, you won’t even know that I was there.

I advise my clients that a refinished surface need to 48 hours to fully harden.

Upon completion of the project, I will give you instructions for care and cleaning of your refinished sink, tub, or countertop. By following my instructions and avoiding abrasive cleaners, you can enjoy your refinished surface for 10 to 20 years or longer. Refinished surfaces, like porcelain, can chip if you drop something heavy on them, but I also offer chip repair services. Read the rest of this entry ?

DIY Porcelain Chip Kits

April 6, 2011

In hard economic times, people search for cheap ways to repair and update their homes. Home owners with porcelain tubs and sinks often purchase do-it-yourself (DIY) chip repair kits. While this seems to be the most cost effective way to repair a chip, it can actually wind up costing you more.

These DIY chip repair kits cost around $25 and claim to take as little as five minutes to dry. Manufacturers state that the tub or sink can be used in less than an hour. They also claim that their products are water-proof and resistant to household cleaners. Also, there are websites that give you step-by-step guide for the repairs. However, my clients who’ve tried the DIY chip repair kits complain of a poor appearance, as well as chipping and peeling.

I’m Chris Duty, owner of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I have been getting a lot of calls lately to repair these DIY chip repairs! I have been refinishing bathtubs, sinks, and showers for years. I have seen and repaired a number of DIY chip repair projects. I will save you money and hours of aggravation with custom porcelain refinishing.

Here are some before and after pictures of a sink remodel I recently completed. This is not a little DIY project!

Refinishing the Tub is Not a Do-It-Yourself Project

March 10, 2011

With spring approaching quickly, homeowners are ready to spring clean and fix up the house. Many people will watch home improvement programs and think they can handle everything themselves. Some decide to take on the bathroom and give it a whole new look. There are several ways to spruce up the bathroom and increase the value of your home, but not all are do-it-yourself projects.

Let’s look at your bathtub. You can go to any home improvement store and purchase a new bathtub for around $200. With that, you need to add in the cost of demolition, removal, tile replacement, and plumbing. Suddenly your $200 bathtub just cost you plenty more … even thousands!

You have probably seen advertisements for acrylic liners. These bandages are actually more expensive than a new tub, and they only hide the real problems.  You could purchase a DIY refinisher and attempt to repair the tub yourself.  Without experience, it is virtually impossible to achieve a smooth finish. Not to mention, most DIY finishes peel and chip. So what other options do you have?

I’m Chris Duty, owner and operator of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I have been refinishing bathtubs, sinks, and showers for years.  I have saved my customers hours of aggravation and money with my custom refinishing. Upon completion of your refinished project, I will give you instructions for the care of your new refinished bathtub.

I not only do refinishing work on tubs, sinks, and counter tops, I do remodeling projects such as tile, painting, flooring, and have a crew of trustworthy plumbers and electricians. We can take that DIY project off your hands or fix that project so you can enjoy your weekend.

If you are in the DFW area and need bathtub refinishing or minor remodeling, call me at (940)395-1406 for a free estimate.  I will provide you with professional references upon request.

Care Instructions after Bathtub Refinishing

January 25, 2011

When I complete a bathtub refinishing project, I advise my client to wait 48 hours before using the tub.

If you take reasonable precautions, like using the right kind of cleaner, your refinished bathtub could look as good as new for a few decades!

After the process has dried completely, it’s important to keep standing water off of the surface. This means you should avoid using suction-cup mats, sitting bottles on the ledge, or leaving wet rags and toys in the tub.

I like to say, if you wouldn’t do it to your car, don’t do it to your tub.

Don’t use steel wool or gritty cleansers on the surface. Instead, use a non-abrasive cleanser, like Simple Green, to keep the new topcoat shiny and smooth. When you scrub any surface (even a new bathtub) with abrasive cleansers, the topcoat is worn away. Tiny scratches are created in the surface, and over time, body oils, soaps, and dirt get caught in the scratches. Ultimately, the tub will star to look dingy.

Keep heavy, sharp, and hard items out of the tub. Basically, don’t throw hangers and shoes in it. Don’t store tools in it. And, if you have kids, make sure they use soft toys in the tub — no metal cars or dishes.

If you notice that water is standing in the tub because of unevenness in the bottom or in the corners on the ledge, dry the area with a towel after bathing and showering. If the uneven area exists when I come in to refinish, I can usually repair it before the job. However, if the tub shifts or is altered after refinishing, and water is allowed to stand in any area for long periods of time, the surface can become damaged.

So, to recap: soft cleansers, no hard or sharp objects, no standing or trapped water.

These few little precautions will keep your tub looking great for years.
