Get your polka on at the Addison Oktoberfest this weekend!

September 17, 2010

Addison Oktoberfest – September 17, 18 & 19, 2010

Although there are many cities holding Oktoberfests this weekend only a small number can boast that they are among the 10 best.  Addison’s Oktoberfest was named one of the 10 Best Oktoberfests in North America by USA Today Travel.

This event is sponsored by Spaten, one of six Munich breweries allowed to serve at the original Oktoberfest.  It’s held in a 30,000-square-foot tent right in Addison Circle. Along with food, contests and of course beer there are a couple of events that make this celebration unique.   The yodeling contest is not to be missed and the German spelling bee is the only one of its kind.  And did I mention there would be beer?

Join Town of Addison Mayor Joe Chow and local dignitaries on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the Schloss Addison tent for the Opening Ceremonies. Mayor Chow will officially tap the first keg of Spaten from Germany by hammering the bronze spout into the keg with a wooden mallet. The trick is to do so without spilling any bier!
