Bath Safety Month

January 6, 2012

It’s National Bath Safety Month! It only takes a few seconds for a young child or elderly person to become injured in the shower or tub. Fortunately, Chris Duty can help keep your bath area clean and safe.

  • Avoid Injuries: Chips, scratches, and rust can make the surface of your bathtub rough. This makes it uncomfortable to bathe in and the potential to cut yourself on the uneven surface. Refinishing your tub will leave a smooth surface.
  • Prevent Slipping: The surface of your tub becomes very slippery when wet. Many bath time injuries are the result of falling in the tub. To protect yourself, Chris can install an anti-slip mat in the bottom of your tub. Please note that using a bath mat with suction cups can peel off the finish on your bathtub. Hand rails and shower seats can also prevent accidental slips and falls.
  • Keep It Clean: You should keep your tub clean to help prevent rust and dirt buildup. A shower caddy can help keep your items organized and prevent spilling soap or shampoo on the surface. Bath toys and other items should not be left in or on the tub. Razors can be dangerous to young children, and can also chip your bathtub finish. Once a week, wipe down your refinished tub with a towel. You should also keep toys and bottles clean to prevent mold growth.

Celebrate Bath Safety Month by reducing your risk of injuries with a clean, newly refinished bathtub or shower.  To repair your bathroom in the DFW area, call Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing at (940) 395-1406.

Just Peachy? Not So Much.

November 30, 2011

If you’ve found the perfect home with the perfect yard and the perfect location, but there’s just one problem, the bathtub and sink are peach, you’re in the right place. Chris has refinished porcelain bathtubs for years, and he has a reputation for excellence in the DFW metroplex. The photos below show the before and after version of a bathtub Chris recently refinished.

Refinishing can change the color of a bathtub, sink, shower, or counter top, but it can also erase imperfections. Chips, scratches, paint drips, cigarette burns, and rust stains disappear beneath the two-composite polyurethane process Chris uses. In some cases, buffing rough areas and repairing chips is necessary prior to refinishing. The entire process takes only a few hours, and it will last for years.

Before you replace your bathroom or kitchen fixtures, consider refinishing. It’s cost effective, convenient, and durable. Call 940-395-1406 today for a free estimate if you live in Grapevine, Roanoke, Keller, Southlake, Lewisville, or the Mid Cities.

Pink Bathtub Makeover

October 22, 2011

It is October, and I certainly support breast cancer awareness month. I’m all for the Cowboys and the Rangers wearing pink, and I even have a pair of pink hedge trimmers with the pink ribbon on the handle. Pink is great — but not on a bathtub. Back in the 1950s, light pink and baby blue bathroom fixtures were all the rage. Today, not so much.

Last week, I refinished a pink tub so that it’s now fresh, clean, and white! You’ll notice in the before photo, new tile has already been installed. That’s because I like to be the last contractor in a bathroom. Plumbers and tile crews tend to drop tools in the tub, and they can scratch or chip the surface.

If you have a tub with 1950s pink, 1960s harvest gold, 1970s brown, or 1980s almond, and you’d like to bring your bathroom into the 21st century, call me. I can refinish your bathtub, sink, shower, or counter top in crisp white or a more modern color of your choice. Call 940-395-1406 or email me today for a free estimate.

What are people saying about Striking Image?

“You did a wonderful job on the tub and we’re very pleased with it. Thanks for squeezing it in so quickly.”-Pat from Coppell

“Thank you so much for doing an amazing job on my old, beat-up bathtub. The bathtub you repaired and refinished looks just like new. I mean that it’s shinier than a brand new one. I can’t believe that is the same bathtub I had with two half-dollar sized, rusted holes on it. Without a moment of hesitation, I can say that you are the best. Thank you again, and it won’t be long until I need you to refinish my kitchen counter.”-Chae from Bedford

“Chris saved us the expense of having to tear out an old tub and buy a new one! Our old tub was so rusted around the overflow drain that you could touch it and it would crumble. Chris rebuilt the area and refinished the tub- looks like new! He is very efficient, detail-oriented, honest, and very neat with his work. We definitely will call him again when the need arises and recommend him to our friends!”-Val and Kandy from Trophy Club

That’s it, Folks! The truth is in the testimonials. Previous clients of Striking Image love the work that’s been in their homes and, chances are, you will, too. If you have a bathtub, shower, or countertop that needs refinishing or resurfacing, call Chris Duty, the owner of Striking Image, at (940) 395-1406 to schedule your free estimate.

Harsh Cleaning Can Cause the Need for Bathtub Refinishing

July 19, 2011

Bathtub Prior to Refinishing

Let’s face it: Nobody likes to clean, and cleaning a bathtub can seem like the worst.

But, like many other chores involved with being a homeowner, it must be done.

Believe it or not, there’s actually a wrong way to clean a bathtub. Don’t damage your tub and other bathroom surfaces by using harmful cleaning products that can cause permanent damage.

During the Refinishing Process

Products like soft scrub, Babo, Ajax, and bleach are hard and can strip a tub of its finish, making it harder to clean and more susceptible to staining.

Instead, clean all bathroom surfaces with a gentle, but powerful disinfectant, such as Scrubbing Bubbles.

If it’s too late and your tub’s finish has already been damaged thanks to harmful chemicals, refinishing can resurface the tub and make it appear brand new. I’m Chris Duty, owner and operator of Striking Image, and I’m here to tell you that bathtub refinishing is not a do-it-yourself project.

The Final Result

I’ve been refinishing bathtubs, sinks, and showers for years, and I’ve saved my customers hours of aggravation and money with my custom refinishing. Upon completion of your refinished project, I will give you instructions for the care of your new refinished tub.

If you have a bathtub, or other surface (sinks, showers, countertops, etc.), that needs refinishing, and you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, call Striking Image at (940) 395-1406 to schedule your free estimate.

Helping DFW-Area Homeowners Save Time and Money by Keeping Bathroom Repairs Simple and Effective

June 7, 2011

I frequently get calls from potential clients concerned about a rusty bathtub drain. Most of the time, these homeowners want to know how much it will cost and how long it will take to completely replace their bathtub.

Usually, they’re surprised when I tell them that it may not be necessary to replace the entire tub. Depending on the degree of rust present on the drain, I may be able to give your bathtub a makeover simply by patching the drain and refinishing the tub, saving you time and money, and sparing you from a torn up bathroom.

Once I evaluate your bathtub during your free estimate appointment, I will be able to tell you what will be needed to get your bathtub into tip-top shape. I may suggest the installation of a new tub if I find structural damage, excessive rust, or other problems, but if a rusty drain is the only problem, it’s likely that a new bathtub won’t be needed.

If you’re worried about the appearance of your bathtub, or need help with minor remodeling or bathroom appliance refinishing, call me, Chris Duty, at (940) 395-1406 to schedule your free estimate. I provide services to homeowners, builders, and interior designers in Southlake, Westlake, Grapevine, Roanoke, Colleyville, Keller, and the surrounding areas.

Protect Your Belongings During Refinishing

April 13, 2011

As with any home improvement project, prep work is necessary to ensure your belongings aren’t harmed. I’m Chris Duty of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I recommend that my clients remove all personal belongings from the room in which a fixture is being refinished.

While I am refinishing your tub, sink or countertops, I will open windows and use filtered fans to help eliminate the odor from the process. I will line the walls, cabinets, and floors with a static paper that attracts overspray. The filtered fans also draw out overspray. These methods work, so not only will you have a beautifully restored fixture, you won’t even know that I was there.

I advise my clients that a refinished surface need to 48 hours to fully harden.

Upon completion of the project, I will give you instructions for care and cleaning of your refinished sink, tub, or countertop. By following my instructions and avoiding abrasive cleaners, you can enjoy your refinished surface for 10 to 20 years or longer. Refinished surfaces, like porcelain, can chip if you drop something heavy on them, but I also offer chip repair services. Read the rest of this entry ?

DIY Porcelain Chip Kits

April 6, 2011

In hard economic times, people search for cheap ways to repair and update their homes. Home owners with porcelain tubs and sinks often purchase do-it-yourself (DIY) chip repair kits. While this seems to be the most cost effective way to repair a chip, it can actually wind up costing you more.

These DIY chip repair kits cost around $25 and claim to take as little as five minutes to dry. Manufacturers state that the tub or sink can be used in less than an hour. They also claim that their products are water-proof and resistant to household cleaners. Also, there are websites that give you step-by-step guide for the repairs. However, my clients who’ve tried the DIY chip repair kits complain of a poor appearance, as well as chipping and peeling.

I’m Chris Duty, owner of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, and I have been getting a lot of calls lately to repair these DIY chip repairs! I have been refinishing bathtubs, sinks, and showers for years. I have seen and repaired a number of DIY chip repair projects. I will save you money and hours of aggravation with custom porcelain refinishing.

Here are some before and after pictures of a sink remodel I recently completed. This is not a little DIY project!

Save yourself some time, energy, and money, and call me at (940)395-1406 for a free estimate.

I not only do refinishing work on tubs, sinks, and counter tops, I do remodeling projects such as tile, painting, flooring, and I have a crew of trustworthy plumbers and electricians. We can take that DIY project off your hands, so you can enjoy your weekend.
