Chris Duty, owner and operator of Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing, refinishes porcelain structures in bathrooms and kitchens. Porcelain refinishing is a cost effective option for sprucing up old and outdated sinks, countertops, showers, and bathtubs. Many Dallas and Fort Worth area residents are unaware of how porcelain refinishing may benefit them. Instead of completely remodeling a kitchen or bathroom, Striking Image produces beautiful results that are wallet-friendly. Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions about our services.
What are the benefits to porcelain refinishing?
Porcelain refinishing is less expensive than overhauling a kitchen or bathroom. Since we are not replacing sinks and tubs, your overall cost is drastically reduced. Modernizing and restoring bathrooms with refinishing methods is also less time consuming than a total overhaul. We repair discoloration from rust and mold along with concealing chips and cracks.
Can you refinish an antique bathtub?
Yes, we can! In fact, this is one of our specialties. Antique bathtubs are a wonderful focal point for your bathroom. Their style is almost irreplaceable. We understand that many of our clients who live in older homes want to maintain décor and fixtures that honor the time period when the home was built. In order to accommodate our clients with antique bathtubs, we offer refinishing services that will restore the look of your antique tub. We will also repair chips and imperfections on the inside and the outside of the tub. Read the rest of this entry »

Your bathroom is generally the last place you visit before going to bed, and the first place you go in the morning. If your bathroom has poor lighting, grooming activities like shaving and applying makeup won’t turn out as accurately as you hope. Too much light can be blinding, and too little light can be straining. Choosing the right lighting will not only make your daily rituals easier, but also help set the right decorative tone and style of your bathroom.
The first consideration in choosing your lighting is determining how much light you will need. Larger bathrooms require more light fixtures in different places. If your bathroom has lots of windows, the balance of natural light will reduce the amount of light fixtures you need to add. Think about all the areas of your bathroom and consider how much light they need.
The next factor to decide is where to place your lights. When placed at certain angles, lights can create shadows on your face. To eliminate shadows, it’s best to place lights along the top and sides of the mirror. A strip of lights or sconces can create balanced and consistent illumination across your mirror, and therefore across your face. For small bathrooms, one hanging fixture in the middle of your bathroom may produce enough light.

Your bathroom should be a place of luxury. There are so many different types of tile and finishes available, so how do you choose the right one? Unlike the kitchen counter that needs to be strong, functional, and durable, your bathroom countertops can be used more for decoration. Here’s an evaluation of the four most common bathroom surfaces, according to HGTV.
Granite
Granite is a natural stone material that is long-lasting, stain-resistant, and beautiful. It is viewed as elegant and luxurious. Granite surfaces are durable and easy to take care of. Small scratches can be polished and touched up. To keep the shiny surface clean, use warm water and a liquid detergent, but beware of abrasive cleaners that can dull the finish. Granite countertops may need to be sealed once a year.
Quartz
Quartz is even stronger and more resistant to scratches and stains. Quartz can look similar to limestone, granite, or marble, but the synthetic composite is a durable, easy-to-clean surface. As a bonus, it doesn’t usually require regular sealing or maintenance.

Are you hosting a Super Bowl party this weekend? Don’t let your house guests ruin your kitchen! The kitchen sink is usually more abused than a shower or bathtub. Try these party tips to avoid damaging your kitchen sink or counters during your party.
- Use a liner. When dishes are dropped into your sink, they could scrape, dent, or chip the finish of a porcelain sink. Placing a thin liner in the sink will help protect it from scratches. However, be careful that your liner doesn’t contain powerful adhesives that could peel off or corrode your finish.
- Wipe it down. Specifically during the Super Bowl, Buffalo wings, dip, and soda can become very messy. Grease and food can stain the inner surface of your sink or get stuck between crevices of your tile countertop. Wipe off your surfaces regularly to keep them clean and prevent drips and spots from hardening.
- Use the remote. Since you don’t want to miss any touchdowns, you or your house guests might rush around during the commercials to get food or go to the restroom. In the hurry, food and drinks will spill on the counter or floor, possibly ruining the surface. Consider pausing the game for a brief moment so everybody can get what they need in a relaxed and careful manner.

It gets a little crowded around your small bathroom sink. You have just a small space to lay out all your personal care and hygiene products. However, double sinks, also known as “his and her” sinks, can save space, time, and even help protect the finish of your countertops and sinks.
Double vanities will give you more space to spread out your materials and keep them separate. You won’t have to fumble through all the products or leave your countertop cluttered and messy. As you dig through your sink area in your morning rush, you’ll likely knock over bottles and spill hair products, facial moisturizers, or cleansers. These products may be too abrasive for your tile, leaving stains and erosion. When your areas are separate, you can sort out your products to find exactly what you need in an organized, timely, and clean manner.

Dear Chris:
I just wanted to thank you for the excellent job you did on my tub. I had been wrestling with replacing it or removing it all together and then luckily I spoke to you and it all became clear…refinish. Wow…what a difference. My kids came home from college and loved the “new tub.” (I finally broke down and told them it was Chris that made it happen.)
The process was painless. Thanks for being here when you said you would…for being professional…for the through clean up…for your attention to detail…for the after care instructions (enlightening)…and for the beautiful tub. You saved me a fortune and all the headaches if I had replaced it.
Please feel free to use me as a reference for Striking Image. You were great and other people need to know.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Bob Hayden

It’s National Bath Safety Month! It only takes a few seconds for a young child or elderly person to become injured in the shower or tub. Fortunately, Chris Duty can help keep your bath area clean and safe.
- Avoid Injuries: Chips, scratches, and rust can make the surface of your bathtub rough. This makes it uncomfortable to bathe in and the potential to cut yourself on the uneven surface. Refinishing your tub will leave a smooth surface.
- Prevent Slipping: The surface of your tub becomes very slippery when wet. Many bath time injuries are the result of falling in the tub. To protect yourself, Chris can install an anti-slip mat in the bottom of your tub. Please note that using a bath mat with suction cups can peel off the finish on your bathtub. Hand rails and shower seats can also prevent accidental slips and falls.
- Keep It Clean: You should keep your tub clean to help prevent rust and dirt buildup. A shower caddy can help keep your items organized and prevent spilling soap or shampoo on the surface. Bath toys and other items should not be left in or on the tub. Razors can be dangerous to young children, and can also chip your bathtub finish. Once a week, wipe down your refinished tub with a towel. You should also keep toys and bottles clean to prevent mold growth.
Celebrate Bath Safety Month by reducing your risk of injuries with a clean, newly refinished bathtub or shower. To repair your bathroom in the DFW area, call Striking Image Porcelain Refinishing at (940) 395-1406.

If you’ve found the perfect home with the perfect yard and the perfect location, but there’s just one problem, the bathtub and sink are peach, you’re in the right place. Chris has refinished porcelain bathtubs for years, and he has a reputation for excellence in the DFW metroplex. The photos below show the before and after version of a bathtub Chris recently refinished.
Refinishing can change the color of a bathtub, sink, shower, or counter top, but it can also erase imperfections. Chips, scratches, paint drips, cigarette burns, and rust stains disappear beneath the two-composite polyurethane process Chris uses. In some cases, buffing rough areas and repairing chips is necessary prior to refinishing. The entire process takes only a few hours, and it will last for years.
Before you replace your bathroom or kitchen fixtures, consider refinishing. It’s cost effective, convenient, and durable. Call 940-395-1406 today for a free estimate if you live in Grapevine, Roanoke, Keller, Southlake, Lewisville, or the Mid Cities.
